East YMCA Renovation

Click on picture for an enlarged photo
We have invested more than $181,000 in updates and renovations to the Eastern Community YMCA in the last 18 months. Built in 1979, Oregon's local Y has been serving children and families with early education and afterschool programs, teen leadership programs, youth and adults sports, swim lessons, teen and adult health and fitness programs and much more. This is the most extensive renovation the Eastern YMCA has received in recent years.

Recent renovations include:
* Brick and mortar work to entire exterior, YMCA building sealed.
* Pipe repair in pool chemical room; ensuring the longevity of our 6-lane indoor pool
* Lobby renovations, started in 2005 with a new member service desk, finished this year with new paint, WiFi capability, big screen TV, fireplace, lounge
chairs & couches, new lighting and cafe tables and chairs.
* Installation of 2-flume slide to the Olympic sized outdoor pool
* Full-time Early education classroom for children ages 3-5 opened in August 2006.
* Fitness Center received the most extensive renovations with windows being added to east side of the building; ceiling and walls painted, new flooring
added, three 42" flat screen TV's and a functional training space installed. New Precor Fitness strength equipment was added to the fitness center in
  January 2008.
* Entire metal facade of the YMCA was painted; giving the building a contemporary look from I-280.
* All pole lights in the parking lot were replaced, ensuring a brighter, safer area.
* January 2008 will bring another pre-kendergarten room for 4-5 year old children; registrations are being accepted now. We are able to serve families that
qualify for funds throught Earl Learning Initiative (ELI). Eli is a state-funded early education program designed to enhance children's learning potential
  during their preschool years.

Additional Plans for 2008:
* First Fridays for Families - the first Friday of each month the East YMCA will open its doors to all families in our service area for free. From 7:00-9:30 pm .
families can enjoy open gym, open swim, crafts and snacks. Occasionally we will host different activities on these nights.
* Guest passes - we welcome families to come take a tour and receive a free guest pass for their use another time.
* Annual Scholarship Campaign - helping youth and families become members of the YMCA and participate in YMCA programs. For more than 10 years this
community has raised more than $100,000 for children and families. In 2007, more than 60 volunteers raised $116,000. The 2008 goal is $118,000. We're
proud to have Ken and Denise Allan, Oregon Printing and MaryAnn Coleman, of Welles Bowen Realty return as campaign chairmen.
* Teen Leaders Club - local teens provide community service, focus on leadership development and spend time socializing in a fun, supportive
  environment.
* We offer classes in dance, gymnastics, arts, cheerleading, youth sports, and swimming and much more.
* Oregon, Walbridge and Northwood adults over 55 can enjoy 14 free land and water fitness classes due to long-standing partnerships with the cities of
  Oregon, Northwood, and Walbridge.
* Our Christian Emphasis Committe works to build the spirit of our members. Local church pastors serve as chaplains to members in need. We also host a
weekly bible study which is free anhd open to the community. Lunch is provided; registration is required.

First Fridays for Families
On the first Friday of each month, from 7:30 - 10:00 pm the Eastern Community YMCA invites area families to enjoy their Y. Families can enjoy open swimming, volleyball, wallyball, basketball, game room and more. Children 14 and under with their parents are invited to participate. Please check in at the member services desk. Don't forget to bring your swimsuit; all participants will be asked to take a swim test if they are planning on swimming. The YMCA will be open to Max members, Associate members and guests on the first Friday of each month at no cost; be sure to watch the website for details on future events or ask at the Member Service desk.
