Splash into summer!
Join us for YMCA/JCC Splash, our free, week-long water safety and basic swimming skills program designed especially for beginner swimmers.

Splash 2008 will be held June 16 - 20 at nine area locations.

The annual program includes water safety, basic swimming instruction, character development activities, parent information, and a special family picnic and swim party to celebrate the completion of the course.

YMCA receives Eagle Award
 

YMCA of Greater Toledo representatives
Robert Alexander, president/chief executive officer; Gina Ritzman, associate director of development; Stephanie Dames, senior vice president of development; and Eric Summons, board chairman/chief volunteer officer, attend the Eagle Award banquet.
 
On Friday April 11, 2008, the YMCA of Greater Toledo received the Eagle Award from the North American YMCA Development Organization (NAYDO) in Montreal, Canada. The award is presented annually at the NAYDO Conference to YMCA Associations demonstrating outstanding achievement in resource development and fundraising. The YMCA of Greater Toledo volunteers and staff were recognized as belonging to the top group of charitable causes in our community.

Toledo YMCA attends key leaders legislative breakfast

Becky Spencer, YMCA and JCC of Greater Toledo vice president of Child Development, was one of 180 people in attendance for the YMCA Key Leaders legislative breakfast held April 9, at the Hyatt Hotal on Capitol square in Columbus, Ohio. The event hosted Y staff, volunteers and state legislative leaders.

The Keynote speaker, Ohio State football coach Jim Tressle, gave an inspirational message about gratitude, beliefs and creativity. Becky addressed the crowd and spoke about the important relationship Ohio Y's have with families in their communities through YMCA Early Education, Care and Afterschool Programs. Laura Rooney, from the YMCA of Central Ohio, spoke about Activate Ohio, the new Ohio YMCA's diabetes screening and education program. Becky said, "We were pleased with the attendance, the program and the opportunity to share breakfast with these important leaders in Ohio!"

Summer  Camp 
 

 

for Military Kids 

Free Summer  Camp for Military Kids  

YMCA Storer Camps was chosen by the National Military Family Association to host Operation Purple Camp, a free summer camp for military children with parents who have been, are currently or will be deployed. Storer Camps will host three weeks of camps exclusively for Operation Purple campers this summer: June 15 - 21 (3rd - 8th grade girls and boys), July 27 - August 2, and August 2 - August 9 (7th - 10th grade girls and boys).

Registration for Operation Purple Camp begins March 24, 2008. Space is limited and applications will only be accepted online. For more information or to register, visit http://www.operationpurple.org/.
