KidZone Opens July 5, 2010
The KidZone will re-open July 5, 2010 for children ages 6 weeks to 10 years. KidZone is for members to bring their children to the YMCA while they workout. Children can enjoy games, toys, coloring activities and much more. Their is a 2.5 hour time limit.

Come swim with us at the Eastern Community YMCA's outdoor pool
The Summit YMCA is offering a shuttle service to the Eastern YMCA to use their outdoor pool. The shuttle will run every 2 hours from 11:45 am - 6:00 pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Members under 13 years must be accompanied by an adult.

  1. All riders must be current members of the YMCA of Greater Toledo.
  2. All Riders that are 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult member over the age of 18 that will be responsible for this party.
  3. All riders must agree to follow the pool rules and codes of conduct of the Eastern Community YMCA Branch.
  4. All riders must bring their member card on the bus and into the Eastern Community YMCA.
  5. No profanity while riding the bus and while visiting either YMCA locations.
  6. Appropriate attire required.     
  7. All riders between 13 and 17 must have parent/legal guardian consent to ride the shuttle bus. (forms available at the Member Service desk)
  8. Swim test will be required to swim in the deep end.
    Reminders:
    Pack a snack there is 2 hours in between shuttles
    Bring a bottle of water
    Bring a towel and sunscreen
    Bring a smile and have fun!
  YMCA Director was inducted into the The University of Toledo Varsity 'T' Hall of  Fame

Dorian Hooker, executive director of the Summit YMCA, joined an elite group of athletes on Friday, February 26 when he was inducted into The University of Toledo Varsity 'T' Hall of Fame. The YMCA and JCC of Greater Toledo congratulates Dorian for his amazing accomlishments. Read more.>>  

Leaders Club
Leaders Club is a nationwide program that helps youth develop leadership skills through service projects in the community. The YMCA and JCC of Greater Toledo offers Junior Leaders Club for youth entering grades 4 – 6 and Senior Leaders Club for young adults entering grades 7-12. The Francis Family YMCA also offers Leos Club, in partnership with the Bedford Township Lions Club.Leaders Club was organized for the purpose of allowing young people to develop useful leadership skills, reinforce important values, serve their community as volunteers and make lifelong friends.

YMCA/JCC TO PROVIDE FREE MEMBERSHIPS TO ELIGIBLE MILITARY FAMILIES
As part of the new Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA) and Department of Defense (DoD) Outreach Initiative, the YMCA and JCC of Greater Toledo will provide military families with access to youth development, family strengthening, and health and well-being programs at community YMCAs nationwide.  Membership fees will be underwritten by the DoD and administered through Military OneSource, an information and referral service for military families.

Free Respite Child Care for Military Families
In a continued effort to meet the growing needs of military service members, the YMCA and JCC of Greater Toledo will provide respite child care services to deployed National Guard/Reservists and select military personnel. Underwritten by the Department of Defense (DoD), respite child care services are designed to provide licensed child care for children of deployed military personnel. More>>

Summit YMCA Child Development Center receives star
Congratulations to the Summit YMCA Child Development site which received  a star for Step Up To Quality, Ohio's voluntary quality rating system for Ohio Department of Job and Family Services licensed child care programs. Step up to Quality recognizes early care and education programs that exceed quality benchmarks over and above Ohio' licensing standards. Teresa Fedor, Ohio state senator, recognized the achievement by presenting a plaque to Nitja Allen-Morrow, Summit YMCA family program director and the Summit YMCA Child Development staff. Congratulations to Nitja and the Summit YMCA Child Development staff on this tremendous success!

YMCA in North Toledo gives teens shelter from trouble of boredom - BLADE article
Stretched out on a large couch in the new Summit YMCA's Teen Center, 16-year-old Tevin Mulligan described the large space decked out with a large flat-screen television, computers, and games especially for teens as "ballin." Transaltion for adults: The teen center is a cool and fun place to hang out and meet friends.

Silver Sneakers® Fitness Program

The Silver Sneakers® Fitness Program is a national exercise program designed exclusively for older adults and offered to Medicare-eligible members. YMCA/JCC offers the SilverSneakers ® Fitness program to eligible members of Anthem BCBS and Humana health plans. For eligibility, contact your insurance provider.
