YMCA of Lenawee County to Be Named in Honor of Frank and Shirley Dick
ADRIAN, Mich. – December 11, 2019 – As the fundraising campaign for the ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital and YMCA of Lenawee County moves into the community phase with 77 percent of the $18-million goal raised, YMCA of Lenawee County is thrilled to announce the new YMCA will be named in honor of Frank and Shirley Dick. The name recognizes Mr. and Mrs. Dick’s lifetime of giving to the families and children of Lenawee County, and their gifts forever through the Lenawee Community Foundation.
“We are humbled and grateful to have Frank and Shirley’s name on our new, state-of-the-art YMCA,” Harry “Dusty” Steele, YMCA of Lenawee Board member and Capital Campaign Steering Committee member. “The YMCA has served the people of Lenawee County for over 125 years, and we are looking forward to continuing this tradition in the new facility while honoring the legacy of Frank and Shirley.”
“The decision to honor Frank and Shirley is the right one,” said Generations of Care Capital Campaign Chairman Dave Hickman. “They have made a deep commitment throughout their lives to create a lasting legacy of empowerment and support to the families and children of Lenawee County.”
Frank and Shirley Dick have been instrumental in the growth and success of many entities and organizations throughout Lenawee. They have such admiration from the community at large for their generosity and passion for making Lenawee a better place to live, work and raise families.
Their extensive volunteerism and leadership have made our community what it is today. You can often hear Frank state his famous phrase, “Things just don’t happen, you make them happen.”
Over the years, Frank and Shirley have supported various capital projects and scholarships throughout Lenawee, with our youth and their education and growth always on their minds. This naming in honor of them is a perfect way to say “thank you!”
The state-of-the-art, 32,000-square-foot YMCA of Lenawee County and ProMedica Wellness Center will house a multi-use pool that will accommodate rehab, swim lessons and family activity, a gymnasium, kids’ space, fitness/workout rooms and locker rooms, as well as ProMedica Total Rehab rehabilitation treatment modalities, and overall more health and wellness initiatives.
“The Lenawee community has come together to make certain our new health and wellness campus becomes a reality,” said Dr. Julie Yaroch, president, ProMedica Bixby and Herrick Hospitals. “The new health and wellness campus that includes the hospital, YMCA and ProMedica Wellness Center, ProMedica Farm and Hoop House, and the Kiwanis Club of Adrian Walking Trail, would not have been possible without the generosity of many.”
The new YMCA and ProMedica Wellness Center and the ProMedica Charles and Virginia Hickman Hospital are both scheduled to open August 2020.
