Aquatics Director

Under the direction of the Executive Director and in accordance with Association policies, the Aquatics Director is responsible for the leadership and advancement of the Aquatics programming for the Sylvania Branch of the YMCA of Greater Toledo.  This position will assist in the development and implementation of innovative programs and activities, supervise, guide and develop staff to ensure that participant’s development occurs in a fun, healthy and safe environment, and ensure program outcomes are consistently achieved. 

JOB SEGMENTS

  1. Assists in supervising program activities to meet the needs of the community and fulfill YMCA objectives. Establishes new program activities and expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community organizations.
  2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete.
  3. Maintain audit binder and assure staff is being audited per insurance requirements.
  4. Monitors daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and YMCA health and safety regulations.
  5. Creates and schedules lifeguard shifts and assists with scheduling of aquatic programming.
  6. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
  7. Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to
    all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  9. Will work 40 hours per week between Memorial Day and Labor Day; 10 hours per week must be on deck. Shorter work weeks will begin in March to prepare for opening of outdoor pool, will include training, job shadowing, recruitment and hiring of summer staff, physical prep of outdoor pool facility, and any other related tasks assigned by supervisor.
  10. Must have availability early mornings, weekdays, evenings and weekends.
  11. Must have valid lifeguarding certification.
  12. Any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  13. Assists with the creation of and helps to monitor budget for the aquatic department.
 

Bus Driver

Under the direction of the Site Director and/or Assistant Director, the Bus Driver provides safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining a supportive and positive atmosphere. May also provide support in other areas as assigned.

Child Care Director

Under the direction of the District Child Care Director, the Child Care Director is responsible for carrying out the day to day operations for the Ft. Meigs Adventure Center, the Ft. Meigs Elementary School Child Care Center and the Maumee Schools Child Care Center.  She/he will be responsible for overseeing all the center enrollment, marketing, classroom teachers, ODJFS licensing, billing, snack and meal service/CACFP, and communicating effectively with the children, their parents, YMCA personnel, and the center guest when needed. She/he will work cooperatively with other center directors.

Accountabilities:

  1. Maintain safe and secure environment at all times.
  2. Work as a team member with other staff.
  3. Oversee learning environments with developmentally appropriate activities.
  4. Collect and maintain paperwork for licensing and billing.
  5. Work with community partners.

Responsibilities:

  6. Assist the branch with raising Annual Campaign contributions.

Dance Instructor

To provide instruction for various Dance Classes, and Arts & Humanities Classes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Be within the area of instructing and ready to teach prior to class start time.
  • Obtain class roster from Program Director prior to class start time.
  • Responsible for taking attendance of class participants during the session.
  • Welcome each participant and their parents.
  • Plan and execute a fun, educational, creative class.
  • See that each class includes: Introduction, Review, Skill Development, Personal Growth, and Safety.
  • Keep the room neat and clean.
  • Report any damaged equipment and recommendations to the Program Director.
  • Do not turn children away if they are not on your class roster. Include them in your class and clear it up later with the Program Director.
  • Advise the Program Director if a student is unable to keep up with course curriculum, we may need to move them to a different program or look at alternative solutions.
  • Be consistent, courteous, and helpful and most of all. Make sure that all of the kids have FUN!
  • Keep Program Director informed at all times of substitutes.
  • Weave YMCA core values and mission into class curriculum.
 

Day Camp Coordinator

General Function: To ensure the safety of all participants enrolled in Day Camp. Be sure that participants receive quality instruction in a fun and safe environment.

Job Segments:

  • Assist fellow staff members with planning, implementation, and carrying out of daily activities.
  • Serve as a role model for campers and other staff. Play roles of leader, teacher, counselor, disciplinarian, and friend.
  • Keep all teams motivated and make sure assignments are being completed.
  • Maintain a constant communication line with director and other staff members.
  • Responsible for the health and safety of the campers from the time they arrive at camp to the time they are picked up to go home.
  • Establish positive working relationships with parents creating a close personal atmosphere that continues to establish camp within the community.
  • Attend and be prepared to facilitate staff meetings.
  • Be prepared for the day’s activities ahead of time.
  • Responsible for maintaining the program areas and inventory of camp equipment.
  • Responsible for teaching within the scope of that week’s theme.

  • Assist with daily check-in and check-out of campers while following all set procedures.
  • Delegate tasks within program area to Day Camp Counselors.

Director - Annual Campaign

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Continuously improves and implements the YMCA of Greater Toledo’s annual campaign strategy in collaboration with executive and volunteer leadership.
  2. Works closely with Association leadership at every branch to ensure effective recruitment of volunteer leadership for overall annual campaign to execute an effective, comprehensive annual giving
  3. Develop strong supportive relationships with Information Technology, Branch Executives, Chief Operating Officer, grant writers (as it relates to annual grants), and Director of Marketing and Communications.
  4. Collaborates with Association and branch leadership to successfully execute association campaign communications and campaign strategies that support annual giving and a culture of philanthropy.
  5. Helps develop and support plans for identifying, cultivating and soliciting annual giving prospects and existing donors throughout the Association.
  6. Works with Association leadership to identify, recruit, and train branch volunteers in gift solicitation.
  7. Accountable for the monitoring of accurate development department office functions of billing, receipting, and accounting as related to donor gifts.
  8. Monitors the quality of data management of annual gifts and conducts regular analysis and reporting of annual giving
  9. Monitors systems for timely and appropriate acknowledgements of annual gifts and other prospect/donor correspondences.
  10. Develops print, web site, social media, and other messaging strategies in coordination with marketing department as it relates to Annual Giving.
  11. Gathers information needed for grant writers to submit Annual Foundation Requests.

Fitness Coach

To ensure the safety of all participants and observers in the Fitness Center, while maintaining a clean and fun environment.  Attendant is responsible for the instruction, supervision and safety of all members utilizing the facility. 

Job Segments:

  1. Demonstrate the proper use of equipment to members.
  2. Assist members with workouts and workout planning.
  3. Provide fitness center orientations to new members.
  4. Supervise the fitness center for general safety of users.
  5. Enforce all branch policies relating to fitness area and equipment.
  6. Maintain proper operation of fitness equipment, and report any repair needs to Supervisor immediately.
  7. Keep the fitness center clean, comfortable and pleasant.
  8. Maintain the member workout log file.
  9. Clean windows, mirrors and machines on a regular basis.

Lake Director

GENERAL FUNCTION: To lend support to the entire Summer Camp staff and structure.  Responsible for the safe operations and supervision of all six waterfronts and watercraft programs and activities.  Responsible for enforcing all state and licensing regulations and camp policy. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide, enforce and maintain the safety standards and regulations of the Aquatic Department. Supervise the aquatic and counseling staff during general swim and boating activities. 
  • Responsible for care and upkeep of all waterfront and watercraft equipment.
  • Oversee the instruction of aquatic lessons during class period and take the lead in all camp waterfront and watercraft activities during designated periods, such as the Regatta.
  • Responsible for managing water safety drills and lost camper drills on the waterfront. Responsible for implementing the Buddy System.
  • Take a leadership role in staff training.
  • Effectively coordinate the operation of swim checks on opening day.
  • Develop weekly lake schedules with Village Directors, Program Directors, and Summer Camp Director. Perform an inventory on all aquatic equipment at the beginning and end of the summer, indicating    repair needs. 
  • Inform the Summer Director of any events that may affect the overall well-being of campers and staff. Maintain a written log of daily incidents and camp related phone calls. 
  • Attend daily and weekly staff meetings and ensure information is understood. Maintain an open door policy for staff and campers. 
  • Perform written evaluations for staff at the end of the summer.
  • Follow all camp policies and procedures.
  • Any other duties assigned that enhance any/all camp programs and the experiences of all campers and participants at YMCA Storer Camps.

  7. Find and secure your own substitute when needed, complete Sub Request Form, and turn in to your supervisor for approval.
  8. Check board daily in the guard office to keep up to date and informed of upcoming events.
  9. Demonstrate Responsibility, Respect, Caring & Honesty towards members, guests, co-workers, and supervisor at all times.
  10. Maintain a clean deck at all times.
  11. Maintain your physical ability to perform rescues. Attend all trainings and swim/record 500’s weekly
  12. Ensure storage room is kept clean and equipment is stored properly.

Member Service Associate

The MSA will possess extensive knowledge in membership and program options as well as specific center information. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Meet and exceed membership satisfaction and retention goals.
  2. Ensure that daily care of members is first priority; assist with member service desk operations including scanning membership cards and greeting members.
  3. Collaborate with all center staff to ensure service excellence and timely follow up to all member questions and/or complaints.
  4. Assist in selling memberships and programs by proactively engaging in conversations on the benefits of YMCA memberships and programs.
  5. Accurately process new memberships and program registrations including cash transactions and maintenance of member records. Respond to inquiries both in person and by phone.
  6. Practice strong fiscal stewardship in the execution of financial and membership policies and procedures.
  7. Actively participate in the Annual Campaign by helping to raise dollars toward the center goal.

Respond to emergency situations by adhering to the safety policies and procedures set for the Association. 

 

North Dock Director

To lend support to the entire Summer Camp staff and structure.  Responsible for the safe operations and instruction of all waterfront activities in accordance with camp and state regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interpret, enforce and maintain the safety standards and regulations of the Aquatic Department.
  • Supervise counseling staff during general swim activities.
  • Responsible for care and upkeep of all north dock equipment.
  • Instruct classes and lead waterfront activities during designated periods.
  • Responsible for managing water safety drills and lost camper drills on the waterfront.
  • Responsible for and implementation of the Buddy System.
  • Meet as required with Aquatic Director and other aquatic staff to discuss schedule, program and maintenance needs.

Summer Camp Counselor

To lend support to the entire Summer Camp staff and structure. To provide leadership and guidance to a cabin of children, ensuring the health and well-being of each camper. To participate in the general planning and delivery of the summer camp program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Live with and lead a cabin of campers, help each camper adjust to camp life and build cabin and village unity.
  • Enforce safety and health regulations.
  • Guide the individual camper in participation of group and camp activities.
  • Assist with program activities and other activities in the village working closely with the Camp Leadership.
  • Have a leadership role at a table in the dining hall during meals.
  • Follow all camp policies, rules and regulations as prescribed by the Director and Assistant Director. Supervise and assist the cabin group in all cleaning activities, including deep cleaning facilities after campers depart.
  • Teach in program areas; supervise recreational activities, special events and evening programs.
  • Provide support and be a role model to additional cabin members, such as CITs.
  • Evaluate activities and growth of campers at the end of each session.

Village Leader

To lend support to the entire Summer Camp staff and structure. To provide leadership and guidance to the counseling staff of the Village.  To participate in the general planning and delivery of the summer camp program. To ensure the health and well-being of each camper in the Summer Camp Village. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure the scheduling of village activities and assign responsibilities, class instruction, and activities among supervised staff.
  • Place campers in classes and assign instructors.
  • Play a leadership role during staff training.
  • Ensure the adjustment of staff to camp life, and help the personal growth of staff. Take a leadership role in the development of the counseling staff, paying special attention to the staff/parent relationships on opening and closing days.
  • Interpret and enforce safety and health regulations.
  • Assist with program activities and other activities in the center, working closely with the Summer Camp Director.
  • Work with the Food Service Director to plan and prepare meals for the Village. Organize and supervise the running of meals in the dining hall.
  • Organize, plan, supervise and implement recreational activities, special events and evening programs.
  • Assist with check-in and checkout procedures.
  • Implement the camper behavior management policy.
  • Supervise and assist the village in all cleaning activities.
  • Conduct written evaluations to each cabin counselor at the end of the summer. Prepare end of session camper packets including camper activity records, certificates, Village Pictures, parent evaluations and Trading Post Balance Sheets. Communicate with Village counselors on a daily basis by.
  • Follow all camp policies, rules and regulations.
