Youth Sports: Basketball Leagues
Youth basketball is volunteer coach-led and focuses on basic skills, building a love for the game, gaining knowledge of the sport, and most importantly having fun! At the Y, what happens off the field is just as important as what happens on the field. By stressing the importance of teamwork and teaching the Y’s core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Faith, our youth sports leagues teach kids how to be good sports and good citizens.
Parents and Volunteers: Key to Our Success
The YMCA of Greater Toledo Youth Sports program serves more than 4,500 youth every year, providing many kids with their very first experience with sports and teamwork. To continue serving our communities, we need your help. Please consider being a volunteer coach or team assistant. If interested in coaching please indicate during the registration process.

Experience- Basketball League (Ages 3-4)
Practices/Play Program Description
Our Practices/Play program is designed to balance skill-building with fun competition. Each day is divided into two parts:
- First Half – Team practice and skill development
- Second Half – A game against another team
This format helps players learn and apply new skills right away in a game setting.
What to Bring:
- Athletic shoes
T-shirts:
Beginning September 2025, all participants in YMCA Preschool Sports Leagues (Ages 3-4)—regardless of the sport—will wear the same light blue YMCA sports t-shirt.
Pennies will be provided for games. If your child already has a light blue shirt from a previous session and it still fits, there’s no need to order a new one.
Coaches Needed:
We’re looking for volunteer coaches for each team. No prior coaching experience is required—just enthusiasm and a willingness to help players grow and enjoy the game!

Girls Basketball League (Ages 9-11)
Players will participate in a clinic style practice once during the week. Then individuals will be split into random teams for games on Saturdays at YMCA locations (TBD depending upon enrollment)
All participants must purchase a maroon/white reversible YMCA basketball jersey if they do not have one from a previous season. *Jersey fee is $20.*Jerseys are a one-time purchase and may be used for future seasons.
